Length: 3000 words
Note: There are two tasks to be completed for this Assignment 2. See details below.

Topic ;An important component in the nursing care of children in Australia is the collaborative, family-centred management of children less than 5 years of age in a range of hospital and community health practice settings. This is particularly important in families with a child who have a genetic or congenital anomaly. As a registered nurse working in a paediatric setting in Australia, you will be required to collaborate with, and advocate for, the family of a child less than 5 years of age with a congenital/genetic anomaly to ensure the best health interests of their child are met. Task 1
ï‚· Compare and contrast the health needs of the well and the ill child with a congenital/genetic anomaly (1000 words)
ï‚· Discuss the cultural and age specific nursing considerations for a child with a congenital or genetic anomaly and their family (750 words)
ï‚· Critically analyse how and why the geographical location of the family impacts on the choices and options for health care services for a family with a child with a congenital or genetic anomaly (500 words)
ï‚· Discuss what is required of the registered nurse to provide competent, professional nursing care for a child with a congenital or genetic anomaly and their family. (750 words)

Task 2
ï‚· Some of you may find this a challenging task to complete. You might find it useful to leave
your current draft for a few hours or to the next day to complete it.
ï‚· Look at the statements for each item on the rubric and review the assignment requirements related to it.
ï‚· Take a step back and look at your assignment objectively, the way a lecturer might. Assess your work related to each item and indicate by shading the relevant box on the rubric that you think most accurately indicates the quality of your assignment in relation to the item. You may use any colour you like to shade the box, but it is recommended you choose a lighter colour to keep the writing visible.
ï‚· Give yourself some feedback in the place provided.
Tips and guidelines for preparing Assignment 2
ï‚· As NUR325 is a third year level unit it is expected you will do more than construct your assignment as a series of paragraphs separately describing or summarising one resource at a time. It is expected your assignment will demonstrate your ability to use appropriate databases to locate current, relevant and appropriate articles and to evaluate, analyse and to critically appraise the published literature in an objective and constructive way. That is, your assignment must be based on current, reliable evidence.
ï‚· Remember to keep focussed on the role and scope of practice of the registered nurse in the context of the assignment. You are not completing a paediatric, family or child health nursing course.
ï‚·ï‚· Resources for Assignment 2 must be from peer-reviewed, evidence based nursing/midwifery/health journals and be dated no earlier than 2004 unless you can justify why earlier material is included.
ï‚· There must be at least 10 peer-reviewed, evidence based nursing/midwifery/health journal articles that meet the criteria for inclusion (see dot point above). While there in no limit to the number of articles you can include, remember you are not writing a research report or thesis and there is a word limit you have to keep within. Inclusion of fewer, better quality articles is better than superficial analysis of more articles that are of variable or lesser quality.

3
ï‚· Documents from professional nursing websites may be included if they are current, appropriate and relevant. Note: These cannot substitute for the required number of journal articles identified in the previous point, they are considered additional resources.
ï‚· Textbooks will be a good starting point and may be included as an additional resource but they must be the current edition and cannot substitute for the required number of journal articles identified above.
ï‚· Dictionaries, non-reviewed web sites such as Wikipedia and abstracts from journal articles are not appropriate resources or blog or this assignment.
ï‚· You will need to critically consider whether or not the information in your sources is relevant and appropriate to Australian nursing practice. There are differences in role and scope of nursing practice as well as in the structure and organization of health and nursing services and regulatory requirements around the world.
ï‚· Because material available on the internet can be of variable quality and reliability, it is strongly recommended that internet sources such as sites offering free nursing resources or blog sites be kept to a minimum or preferably not used at all. This does not include journal articles located electronically via CDU Library databases. Sources from internet sites cannot substitute for the required number of journal articles identified above, they are considered additional resources.
ï‚· It is not appropriate to use preview copies of books available on sites such as Google Books or other online book retailers. You may, however, use relevant electronic books available on the CDU Library ebook collection, but please note the information about using textbooks above.
Before you submit your assignment
Use the pre-submission checklist on NUR325 Learnline (under the Assessment Information menu) to ensure that your assignment is complete, polished and ready for submission. I have included additional information here to help you.
ï‚· Proof-read and edit your assignment before submission to ensure it flows logically and coherently. Ensure it has a brief introduction and conclusion and that each paragraph is linked. You may need to add linking sentences to improve flow and coherence.
ï‚· While you are reading and editing your work, check for spelling, typing and grammatical errors, including punctuation and spacing. Reading it aloud can be a useful strategy. Check you have the correct version of the word, eg their or there; see or sea, as the word spell checking tool will not pick up the wrong word that is correctly spelt.
ï‚· Check that
o references cited in the body of your assignment have complete and accurate details in the
reference list,
o references in your reference list are in the body of your assignment, and that
o all in-text citations and references are in CDU Harvard format, and
o if you have used Endnote, that you have converted your document to a plain word
document to remove the field codes.

ï‚· Check that your assignment is no more than 10% over or under the required word count, excluding the reference list. You may need to edit or summarise or expand on some sections if you are too far over or under. Marking will stop at 10% over the required word count.
ï‚· It is also recommended that you submit your assignment through the Draft Checking link on the main menu on the left hand side of NUR325 Learnline a few days before it is due for submission to check for plagiarism so that you have time to change or appropriately reference any problem areas identified by the Safe Assign report generated by this process.
Note: SafeAssign will only pick up material that is included in the databases it uses. Students are strongly advised to check that all cited material is paraphrased or appropriately acknowledged as a direct quotation and that all citations and reference details are correct.
Note: Your lecturer will not usually access assignments or reports submitted and generated by the Draft Checking link. However, where there is evidence of plagiarism in assignments submitted for assessment, your lecturer may review the Draft Checking report as part of the assessment process.
Assignment 2 presentation guidelines
ï‚· Computer generated on the assignment template provided under the Assessments menu on NUR325 Learnline
ï‚· In either Arial, New Times Roman or Calibri font size 11 or 12
ï‚· 1.5 or double spaced. This facilitates ease of reading and marking and, if marked hard copy,
provides room to give you written feedback directly onto your assignment.
ï‚· In Australian English. Change the language on your computer and word processor to English
Australian to ensure correct spelling.
ï‚· In formal academic language and style and demonstrating your ability to use appropriate, professional language.
ï‚· Within the stated word count. In-text citations are included in the word count, but the reference list is not. Entries that do not meet the minimum stated word count will not help you meet assignment requirements and where they exceed the maximum acceptable word count, marking will stop at the maximum acceptable word count. There will be a 10% allowance over or under the stated word limit.
ï‚· Appropriately referenced using CDU Harvard format. It is expected that you will reference your
thoughts as required and where appropriate and provide a complete and accurate reference list.
ï‚· If you are using Endnote ensure:
ï‚· you set it to CDU Harvard. You can download the CDU styles from the Library website. Please contact the Library if you have any questions or difficulties
ï‚· that you have converted your document to a plain word document and removed the field codes.

ï‚· Assignment 2 must be submitted on the Assignment 2 template provided on NUR325 Learnline.
ï‚· The cover sheet on the assignment template must be completed and your full name, student number, unit code and assignment name must be in the footer on each page of your assignment.
ï‚· Assignment 2 is to be submitted through the submission point for Assignment 2 under the Assessments menu on NUR325 Learnline.
