Individual Report

The Individual Report Details

I The Topics:

In this report I must choose 2 topics in order to complete this report, so I already chose these TWO topics:

1- New Technology

2- E-Commerce and its Issues

Refer to the weekly lecture slides: You should find at the end of EACH set of slides, a section on ISSUES (that managers/management or the enterprise will have to tackle).

Select only one or two of the Issues.

II Individual Report:

1) Select an Enterprise (otherwise referred to as an Organisation) in the Industry you will use to start your Individual Report. It should be one that you feel comfortable with.

2) Refer to tips in the Moodle Discussion Forum on how to write a good report. Good reports will include critical analysis.

You should cite examples of how, you could as a manager, address issues you selected to discuss.

What were your options? Knowing the issues, what and how could you do better to help the organisation resolve the issues?

3) You should suitably include meaningful headings and sub-headings in your report to make it easy to read.

4) Research your topic. Do not copy any materials you use word for word unless you identify these sections clearly as quotations. (See Harvard referencing).

5) If you paraphrase any materials you must identify the materialsŸ sources through in-text referencing.

6) Write your report in an appropriate academic style and particularly ensure you use žthird personŸ narrative, Harvard style in-text citation and referencing.

7) You should cite at least 10 different resources where 2 of them should be from books and the rest from journals.

8) Utilise a number of academic-style resources (e.g. textbooks, books and journals) and try to ensure that you use no, or only a small number, of internet sources.

9) This is an individual report please do not work closely with anyone else.

Lessons learned:

You learn lessons from your past tutorials, group Discussions in Moodle AND reading your text books.

NOW, would you have learnt something new or realised the implications of your proposed options? 1) What options would you have considered differently when faced with issues and 2) Why?

Your Important Resource:

Check out the chapters in the recommended text. There are case studies which you could read and think about. Relate that to the theory that you have learnt.

What am I looking for?

I would like to see each of you understand the theory you have to digest for this course, know what the real-life issues related to these topics entail, the possible, viable options you could implement to address these issues and finally, that there are implications for each decisions made and implemented. On learning these lessons, how you would change your mind and rethink or refine your options.

III Individual report format:

You should use the following table as the guideline for your report:

– Background of the Enterprise (or Organisation) [10% word count]

– What are the issues? [15% word count]

You should write briefly about the backgrounds of each of the issues here.

– What are the viable options that you, as a manager, will and can consider for your organisation? [20% word count]

You should write about what you think the viable options are for each of the issues you wrote about in the earlier section.

This must be clearly supported by the theory you learnt from your text books, journals and lecture slides and justified by your arguments/explanations.

– Reflect on the lessons learnt here. [40% word count]

1) What have you learnt? What are the implications for the choices you made?

2) What options would you have considered differently based on your realisations:

a. that the theories and your ideas did not match at all? OR
b. that they somewhat matched up? OR
c. that you were 100% correct? Do you think there might be something else you did not consider?

3) How do you think you can avoid making wrong decisions?
You should reflectively write this section, answering the questions posed here.

– Your conclusions: 1) Summary of your report and 2) Summary of your views on the future of the topics you discussed above. [15% word count]

Follow the guidelines provided above (see INDIVIDUAL REPORT FORMAT).
The percentage word counts give you an idea of how much you should write for each section.

You should note that you are not required to provide a very detailed report. Be PRECISE and CONCISE!
