Assessment 1a: Group Report (Develop case & questions)
Due: Groups will submit their reports by 4pm, Fri 31 Mar (Week 5).

Assessment 1b: Group Presentation (20 minutes)
Due: Groups will be invited to present towards the latter weeks in the block
sessions. Reports commence from Sat 31 Mar (Week 5 onwards).
Group: Select a suitable business case to critically review and discuss extant leadership practice to
illustrate theory and models of practice. The context is leading an effective team or organisation is a
global context. Expected outcomes include:
– A position based on published research that demonstrates a formative understanding of effective
comparative leadership practices in a global context, including a conceptual typology of
– A plan of action for further evaluation and subsequent synthesis of the selected case
– Two questions per group member for further study (with evidence based reasons and rationale)
Report: In outline, the report must each demonstrate critical thinking and follow the following clear
structure. The assessment for the report will be based on Appendix 3.
1. Introduction: The introduction should introduce your case, the focus of your study and the
line of reasoning that will be developed.
2. Body or Discussion of the topic: In this section you will build an argument and provide
evidence to support your argument (such as expert opinion, examples, date, research
findings etc.). Provide a critical analysis of the selected case, mapped against a conceptual
picture or typology of leadership practice and identified questions for further examination.
Please include references to support your arguments and points, such as journal articles and
books. You must use at least 10-12 good quality academic references (use current journal
articles, not just books) in the essay.
3. Conclusion: A conclusion draws together and summarises the ideas and line of reasoning
presented in your essay, including a summary of the research questions for further
examination by individual members (2 questions/ member).
4. References: Include all (and only) the references that have been cited in your essay using
the Harvard referencing system. Please note that the source of all information and ideas that
are not your own should be acknowledged.
