An Investigation of Female Labour Force Participation in Australia
Background
Australia is experiencing an ageing population. The shift in the age structure of the
population towards older groups decreases the workforce participation rate, hence hinders the
economic growth. One way to increase the labour force participation rate is to increase
females participation in the labour force because currently the rate of labour force
participation in Australia for females is 66% comparing to 78% for males.
Suppose you are recruited into the Treasury Graduate Program and your first task is to
conduct econometric analysis on the female labour force participation in Australia. You are
asked to find out what factors influencing the female labour force participation and to provide
some recommendations on encouraging more females to enter into the labour force.
