Assessment Item 1- part 1: Ecological Identity Reflection

Write an essay in which you synthesise your reflections during the semester and make a plan for future personal and/or professional development.
Do not neglect to draw on a range of relevant sources and reference appropriately.
The purpose of this essay is to provide you with an opportunity to reflect on your roles, intentions and practices as an environmental educator/manager.
Unfortunately, many of us operate out of habit and tradition because we get caught up in the busy routines of our daily lives and work. This essay requires that you synthesise your intentions and experiences into a framework from which you will be able to operate in a reflective and deliberate manner.
The structure and emphases of your essay will reflect your particular concerns and ideas. The following questions provide a range of ideas that you may incorporate in your essay.

Describe your present personal and/or work situation in relation to the challenges of sustainability.
– What opportunities and constraints do you find there?
– What is your vision for the future? What life experiences have helped you shape your vision? How is your vision related to your preferred objectives and practices in environmental education?
– What aspects of your life history, educational beliefs and/or educational ideology shape your preferred objectives and practices in environmental education?
– What similarities and/or contradictions do you find between your life, beliefs, preferred objectives and the way that you presently live and work? Is there a rhetoric-reality gap? If so why does it exist? If not how have you overcome this problem?
– How do you relate to the context of your work situation? What “social strategy/s” have you adopted as a result?
– Develop a three year plan detailing actions you would like to take in your personal and/or work setting to advance the transition to sustainability. How do you plan to alter the way you live and/or work as an environmental educator?
